just a wave…

i used to live out on the plains of western kansas…if you saw the first part of Capote, you know what it looks like…well we did something that was a front porch kind of action, while we were driving, we would wave at every car as they passed us.  i’m sure if the other driver was from somewhere else it probably scared them but to us western kansas’ folks it was just a part of life.  it didn’t matter who we were, what we looked like, what age we were, it was just a friendly thing to do and i loved it.

have you ever gone to a new church and no one noticed you, they just walked on by?  i understand why we don’t wave, smile, acknowledge people we don’t know, it’s because we are scared of what might happen, they might reject us.  but would CHRIST walk on by?  i don’t think so!!!

i really think it is worth the risk of rejection to let a person know that they are special, that they have worth.  i know on my front porch at starbucks i find that no one rejects my smile, my wave, they can’t help but wave back or smile and the same is true at church.  i like making a difference in people’s lives when i give them a wave.  and isn’t that what being a CHRISTian is all about, making a difference in other’s lives because of the difference that CHRIST has done in our’s?  i think it is worth the risk!!!
